Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. James 1:27 (NIV)

We Met Sam!

We have had an amazing day meeting our son.  We are praising our heavenly father for the ground work He laid on this adoption that made our path amazing wonderful today.

It started this morning with our facilitator picking us up at 8:15 to the "adoption office" to pick up our referral to visit Sam.  We were there early in order to be first in line.  At 10:00 a.m. we were called back into an office were our identity was verified and we were read the information they had about Sam. We signed a couple of papers saying we had received the information and then we got in the car and took the hour long drive to Sam's orphanage.

On the way there we stopped at a district office to pick up 2 ladies, one was a social worker and I am unsure of the others title.  They were both very nice.  Then we continued to the orphanage. When we arrived we were taken to the director's office.

The director is a very nice man who has been over this orphanage for 36 years.  It is a very nice orphanage where the children are very well cared for.  He told us that in all time there, no one had ever adopted from this orphanage.  He was thrilled that we were there and was very positive about our adoption.  We were very well received, better even than any experience our facilitator has ever had with an orphanage.

Besides the director and the two ladies we brought with us, two more ladies joined us at a big conference table.  The director shared a couple of stories with us about how these children frequently ask him to find them a momma and a papa. One story was about asking the children at the end of the school year to show him they could write by writing a word on paper for him.  All of them wrote "momma".  He is truly happy that one of his children now have a momma and a papa.

After we left the director's office, we were lead to Sam's groupa.  We walked in and saw 10 of the cutest children, most of whom had Down syndrome.  Mike and I pretty quickly spotted Sam and one of the workers brought him to me.  He put his arm around my neck and laid his head on my shoulder.  I was instantly in love.  We sat down on the couch and pulled out a couple of toys.  He loved the O-ball the best.  He loved flinging it across the room and would giggle every time.  He is so sweet.  Our time with him was too short, but we will get to spend more time with him tomorrow.

I tried to upload videos, but I couldn't get it to work.  Will try again later.

Please say a prayer of thanks and gratitude to the Lord for our spectacular day.

  2. Congradulations! So good to hear/see! Just out of curiosity why don't any children get adopted from there? Are they not generally shared for adoption around here so we don't see them? Or do people just not pick them :( It's so sad but I'm so glad Sam has met his Momma and Papa.

  6. Great pics! So glad the Lord smoothed the way for you! It makes me so very sad that there haven't been any adoptions from that orphanage in 36 years... all those children... that made me cry. But hopefully your Sam will be the first of many who will be adopted into loving families!
