Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. James 1:27 (NIV)

Institutionalized

We found out today that Sam has been moved to a mental institution. We don't exactly know what this means, but we know it isn't as good as the orphanage.  I pray things have improved in the last 14 years, but the description I read in the book "The Boy from Baby House #10" was not good at all.  Please pray for God's protection over Sam.  Pray that our adoption process would go smoothly and without major problems.  Our home study should be done by the end of the month and we plan to have our application dossier ready at the same time so it all can be submitted early in February.

Our hearts ache for this little boy, but our Father loves him even more.  We trust that His timing is perfect.

I'm very upset..........I don't know why they can't leave him where he is until he comes home with you.......I ALWAYS try to figure out why & what God is doing........I join you in prayer that God covers him...........perhpas this will open up an avenue for him to go on the fast track & get your little angel Sam home with you that much faster :)

  6. This is upsetting...I don't understand why he had to go to an institution when he's been adopted. :( I pray for protection over him.

  7. Congratulations! I am mom to 5 (2 bio, 3 adopted) and have been following Sam's story. I'm so excited that he has a family! Sam, and your family, will be so blessed!

One of the best resources in the adoption community is the connections that you make with other families. I will tell you that it is not always a walk in the park! We brought our girls home from Korea and China at age 4 months, 5 years, and 13 years, respectively. Two of them have special needs. Two had fairly easy transitions, one was extremely difficult. I am happy to say that all are now doing very well--but it was the hardest work I've ever done with our challenging child! Worth it, but hard. God knew how to keep me on my knees, LOL! Anyway, I am also a special ed teacher and work with children who have DS and multiple disabilities. I would be happy to help you in any way--whether it be communication, behavior, etc.--or just adjustment challenges. Not sure I can officially post my email address here, but you can get me at stevepatg at aol dot com. Hope that works! I also have an older blog for our latest adoption in 2008--blessedwithkatie.blogspot.com. Also check yahoo groups to connect with other parents. They are invaluable! Lots of times they are listed by specific orphanage too. Looking forward to following your journey!

  8. Just to clarify, I believe Sam was institutionalized before or around the time that we committed to adopt him. We are still in the home study phase of this adoption, therefore we have no official paperwork in Russia that says we want to adopt him. We plan to have our home study done by the end of the month and our paperwork ready to submit in February. Don't know if it will make a difference in what they do or where he lives, but they will know we are coming then.

  10. I will be praying for his safety. We inquired about adopting him, but do not qualify at this time. God had your family picked out from the start. I will be praying for him and for your trip to be a fast one. dear Lord please let this journey have nothing in the way.
