Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. James 1:27 (NIV)

Six Months Home

This last month has been a busy one.  What started out as a routine surgery for Alex, resulted in two subsequent surgeries and a 5 day hospitalization.

The complication was a result of excessive bleeding due to his now diagnosed hemophilia.  Though it was a tough time and spending Resurrection Sunday in the hospital was not our plan.  It was apparently His plan.  We praise the Lord for carrying us through this trial.  Alex is such a laid back little guy and he handled it all really well.  The biggest blessing to me was getting to love him through all of it.

That same Sunday was our daughter, Allison's, 21st birthday.  She was so gracious and we just had a birthday celebration at the hospital.
She said it didn't really matter, as long as we were all together.

Fortunately, our local Down syndrome association had its Easter Egg hunt the weekend after Easter.  Alex was out of the hospital on Wednesday and was doing well enough on Saturday to attend.  He had a lot of fun, as did his siblings.

Getting ready to hunt eggs.

Since Alex isn't mobile, yet, many of the children brought eggs to him.
It was so sweet.

Alex loves to go "bye, bye". He is a great car rider and likes go places.  We took a 6 hour trip to visit his oldest sister, Ashley, a few weeks ago and took a 4 hour family mini-vacation to celebrate Abigail's 10th birthday.  We visited an amusement park that gave him lots of sensory input and the opportunity to ride a few rides.  Overall, he really seemed to enjoy it.

He really liked playing with these balls and watching them disappear up the vacuum tubes.

This was Alex's preferred mode of transportation.

The gang!

Car ride crazy!
