Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. James 1:27 (NIV)

Finances: God Gets the Glory!

I will give thanks to the LORD with all my heart; I will tell of all Your wonders.
Psalm 9:1

I have been thinking and praying about this post for a while.  I'm not even sure where to begin, but I feel that I would not be honoring God unless I share.  I am not saying that this is the only way to fund an adoption.  It is the way that God impressed upon us that we should do it.

When we began this adoption journey, we had two children in college and did not have $40,000 sitting in an account to fund it.  We did have some savings, but not near that amount.  As we prayed about which child God had for us, He lead us to a child that had a significant grant.  Truly, I did not want to choose Sam just because of his grant, but one day I felt that God impressed upon me that "I have provided this money and this is the one I have chosen for you".

This child had been blessed by the obedience of another mom, MckMama, who followed  God's leading to raise money for Sam's adoption.  You can read her blog here.  Recently I received a spread sheet with all of the donations on it.  I was amazed to see that in his $16,000+ grant, there are over 775 people (no names were given to me) who have given and most had given between $1 & $50.  Look how many people were obedient to God's call to help save an orphan!  Goes to show that even our smallest gifts, put together can make a huge difference.

Once we made the decision to adopt Sam, we had a discussion about the finances of this adoption.  As a family, we had recently read a biography of George Muller and were amazed at the faith of a man to "only tell God" of the financial needs for the orphanages that he founded.  It is truly wonderful to read about God's continued faithfulness to this man of God and the orphans.  As we talked, we decided that God was asking us to trust Him alone for the funds we needed to adopt Sam.  By doing it this way, we would truly know that only God was making this happen.

I wish that I could say that it has always been easy to wait upon the Lord, but it hasn't.  But, we have seen some amazing things happen. Honestly, we have not had a need that God has not met.  There have been some really neat ways that he has provided.  He has impressed upon some to give (we did not ask).  He provided a significant tax refund that we were not at all expecting.  He even had an gas company put in a pipeline across some land we own.  It has been AMAZING to watch God work.  How He must love this little boy.

As we prepare to leave for our court trip, we want to GIVE GOD THE GLORY FOR THE GREAT THINGS HE HAS DONE!  Please  join us in a prayer of thanksgiving to the Lord!

That I may proclaim with the voice of thanksgiving And declare all Your wonders.
