As part of our requirements for this adoption, we are required to "prove" that we are ready to parent a child with Down Syndrome. In the process, we are learning so much. We have read several books, visited with some friends that have adopted 3 girls with DS, and last night we attended a meeting of the local Down Syndrome Association and it was so good and we learned a lot. The people were so friendly and welcoming. We will be attending many more meetings and events with this group. Our state organization is having a conference next month, so we will plan on attending that also. We feel blessed by these parent's so willing to help these newbies learn what they need to know.
We have our dossier ready to go and are just waiting for our home study to be finalized. We found out this week about a new requirement, so we will have to get that done also. God has been so good to teach us so many things through this process.
Please pray for three families who have court in the next two weeks. The Fillmore's, the Stickley's, and the Nine's. They are all three adopting children with Down Syndrome from the same region we are. The outcome of their adoptions will affect the future of our adoption. Please pray. The authorities in this EE country don't understand anyone's desire to adopt these "worthless" children. We believe that every person was created in the image of God and has worth based on that alone.

Praying from Sapulpa (just down the road!) that Sam can be adopted quickly and all will go smoothly in the process! He is such a precious baby! Theresa F.
ReplyDeletePraying for Sam and the rest of your family. God bless you all. We have a seven year old son with Down's. He is a gift and a blessing. This is a wonderful site on DS - http://einstein-syndrome.com/ We heard of Sam from Sue Mayer on that list. The Einstein Site is full of info. on supporting the health of a person with DS - particularly by natural methods. :) <><
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ali, I will check out that website.
