Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. James 1:27 (NIV)

Adopting

Several have asked how we decided to adopt, so I though I would share what the Lord has done and is doing in our hearts.  Though our biological family is large with six kids, 21 - 8, adoption is something that has been on my heart for years.  My sister has a daughter that is adopted and it a wonderful picture of God's redemption of each one of us.  My husband, however, feeling the financial burden like men do, has felt like our family was complete.  So my prayers have been that if this was something God wanted us to do, that He would have to change Mike's heart.  I knew in my heart, that when that day came, it would be from God.

A few months ago, my friend Sarah began posting blog links on her Facebook about a family who was adopting two little girls with Down Syndrome from the Ukraine.  I followed those links and subsequently ended up on Reece's Rainbow.  There I started reading about the conditions and lack of future that these children had.  It broke my heart.  I shared these facts with Mike and we both decided to start praying about it.  Then one day I came across this blog post Reckless Abandon and I sent it to him.  We both ran out of excuses and knew this was the path the God had set our feet upon.

We then spent a couple of weeks looking at pictures and asking God, which one?  Then one day, I felt a very clear direction that Sam was the one He wanted to be part of our family.  There are many phases of the adoption process and we are in phase one, the home study.  We hope to have it done by the end of January and be onto the next phase of getting our Dossier (a large amount of paperwork) together to be submitted to the Russian government in February.  We will then wait to be told when we can travel to meet our little boy.

Pray for us when you think about it.  Pray that the paperwork process goes smoothly.  Pray for Sam as he sits in an orphanage not even knowing that he has a family coming for him.

  3. When I saw your family's picture on MckMama's blog, I burst into tears. I am so excited for sweet Sam and your beautiful family. Jennifer posted a picture of Sam several months ago, and my husband and I were struck by how much he looked like our son, Jack. And he actually shares a name with our OTHER son, Sam. We made a donation to his fund, and needless to say, we have been praying for YOUR Sam that he would find a family. I showed your picture to my husband just now and said that Sam is going to be loved to pieces. I am so thrilled for you all. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. :)

  4. This is beyond beautiful. I had prayed for a few months about bringing Sam to our family. I desperately wanted to adopt him. (I kinda knew the whole time it was my plan, not His) God had you in mind. So wonderful!!! I am so thankful that Sam has his family. I would LOVE to meet him someday. :)

  5. I am just a girl who felt like I had more than I deserved. So I gave to Sam's adoption fund. But now, I am so grateful for being able to do something bigger. Can't wait to watch your family grow with sweet Sam! Many blessings to yall!

  6. So wonderful to find your blog! We are an"A" team, too, with nine children with names all starting with the letter "A". I have been a huge fan of Reese's Rainbow for a couple of year now, and I check the site often. My heart feels lead to adopt, but my husband is not onboard with that idea. Not yet, at least. I pray about it. I have my answer. But there needs to be two who feel 100% about it. Maybe God will change his heart one day, but it is something that I cannot hurry or force. Until then, I pray.

I am SO happy that Sam has found a family -- that you have found Sam! You have a beautiful family, and he is going to be a wonderful addition to it. Wondering...once he is home with you all, will you change his name to an A name? LOL

God bless you all. Best wishes for a safe trip bringing him home!

  9. I am so excited for Sam! I have known about Reeces' Rainbow for about 4 years because I have a biological son, Shawn, with Ds. He will be 4 in just 2 more days. I will keep my long story short - but I have started an organization benefiting orphans (brand new) and we aim to ralley for at least 1 RR child per year, to find him/her a forever family! I have known about Sam from MckMama blog - even though I already knew about RR. I have 3 sons, ages 4, 6, and 21. Our family wouldn't be complete without the joys and comedy of Shawn! I am so excited for your family. I'm praising God for what is in store!

  10. I am a reader of MckMama's blog and I just have to say that I have tears in my eyes this morning... I just read her most recent update and I am so thrilled to hear that Sam has found his forever family! My husband and I have an almost three year-old little boy with Down syndrome and he truly has been our greatest blessing. I think you and your family will come to see Sam as the same thing.

I am adding your blog to my favorites and can't wait to follow your family on it's journey!

  11. What a wonderful story of God's redemption. Lord-willing I will have my own story of adopting a baby, but until then, I am encouraged by stories like yours. May God bless your family for answering His call to rescue precious Sam! :)

  12. I found your blog off of the My Charming Kids blog and I can not for the life of me figure out how to tell you how excited I am for your family. I remember reading about Sam and praying for his forever family several months ago. I started to cry when I read what you wrote about him not knowing he has a family here. I will be praying for you guys and for him. God is so good!

  14. So excited for you (and for Sam)! We have been following Sam's story on McKMama's blog. So glad so much $$ was raised. We adopted a little boy last April. It was also something that has been on my heart, and I prayed for years for the Lord to change my husband's heart. We had 4 biological children, and now we have our beautiful adopted baby boy. We always thought we would do international, but God made it clear our baby was domestic this time. It was awesome and we are so thankful and awed. You guys will be in our prayers.

  19. Your adoption has touched our hearts. We adopted our son from Guatemala in 2008 and started a blog to share the news and progress of the adoption with the family. Through that we needed to raise money for the adoption, so I expanded my web design business to include blog design.

I would be honored if you would allow me to offer you a free blog design package (Personal Blog +Express Upgrade). You can visit my blog at TheBlogCafe.org and I can walk you through it.

I cannot wait to follow your journey and see God's hand work!!
I can tell you its the hardest thing you will ever do, as a walk of faith, but the most rewarding. Now my husband and my faith is easily stronger for everyday things because of the adoption. its so amazing how God can use one thing to work in your everyday life.
    Hugs!!
